Alterna® is not only a company committed to the Latino community, we are a company founded by Latinos. We have spent several years developing the Alterna Program supported by a prepaid reloadable debit card product that addresses the needs of unbanked, underbanked and low income Latino immigrants in the United States.
The Alterna Program is designed to help the Latino immigrant community transition into U.S. society, particularly with regard to personal financial management and by offering services that provide greater security, opportunity and savings. To help us provide a superior product and to realize the full potential of the Alterna Program, Alterna has partnered with some of the largest providers of prepaid debit card services as well as trusted employers, retailers, associations, non-profits and religious/community organizations such as Catholic Dioceses and Catholic Charities that are currently servicing these individuals in many important areas of their family’s and individual lives
The Alterna Prepaid Mastercard® program provides financial freedom and security for U.S. immigrants who are either unbanked or under-banked, as well as anyone looking for a smart way to manage money. The Alterna Card works just like any bank-issued debit card, which can be loaded with cash, check, or direct deposit,3 without ever having to worry about overdraft fees or the risk of going into debt.4 No Social Security Number is required for Non-U.S. Citizens.1,2 A government-issued photo ID from their country of origin is required. A Social Security Number is required for U.S. Citizens. There is no credit check1 required for enrollment.
Alterna’s Card to Card Sharing Programs allow the Alterna primary cardholder to enroll Family and Friends in Mexico and Nicaragua in personalized Prepaid Mastercards5 which are issued in banks in Mexico and Nicaragua as a way to instantly6 and economically share money. The Programs also allow the Alterna primary cardholder to share money instantly with other U.S. Alterna cardholders.
